Rotunda Hospital building Dublin & Gate Theatre images

The  Rotunda maternity hospital located on Parnell street, close to Dublin's city centre. It was founded by Bartholomew Mosse (1712-1759) in March 1745. The building's design is by Richard Cassels who also designed Leinster House. At the time it was the largest lying-in hospital in the British Isles.

The Rotunda originally had several public areas for hosting social and fund raising events, as it was a charitable institution and dependent on donations. The Gate Theatre (below), is where the supper rooms of the Rotunda were located, it was founded in 1928 by Micheál MacLiammóir & Hilton Edwards.
